Ammunition as a Currency

I recently saw a customer review on our site that wasn’t negative but also wasn’t extremely positive either. It was three stars - so right in the middle, but it stood out to me because of something he said.

The reviewer took the time to write about his likes and dislikes and said this:

“If you buy into the “ammo as a currency” philosophy that the company seems really intent to push, then it’s great for that. If you don’t really use those features and aren’t interested in it, then it’s not for you.”

I thought that was a valid comment and one that I agree with 100%. The reality is there are literally thousands of places you can find ammo online right now. Especially with it coming back in stock just about everywhere. We aren’t ecommerce and never have been. We actively DISCOURAGE people from buying from us if they are looking for a “one and done” transaction.

Why?

Because that isn’t our business model. While we have evolved over the years (especially over the past year with our Ammo² Wallet), we have never been plain jane ecommerce. Some people like that and other people don’t. They want what they want and they want it now.

Hey that’s cool. That’s just not us.

That said, we don’t live in a binary, black or white world. You can still buy from a dozen ecommerce companies AND have an active account at ammosquared.com. In fact, we ENCOURAGE our customers to do this. This way you get the best of both worlds - you get exactly what you want right away (ecommerce) and you can stockpile ammo a little bit over time so it is ready when want it. You also get a bit of a surprise when you get your shipment - you get to try some new brands or ones you don’t see in the store. What’s not to love about that?

Now on to the “ammo as a currency” part of the comment… because that’s worth addressing separately.

Yes we are pushing it. Or I would say, more accurately: we are PIONEERING it.

We started out as an ammo subscription service but when we realized that most of our customers store ammo with us over a long period of time and get an occasional shipment, it opened up a whole new world of possibility for us.

A world where you can buy ammo, store it for a rainy day BUT THEN DO OTHER STUFF WITH IT!

Don’t want that caliber any more? Sure go ahead and exchange it for something different.

Need some extra cash for Christmas presents? Sell off some of the ammo you’ve accumulated throughout the year and get an ACH to your bank account nearly instantly.

Want to buy more of something? Sure just a few clicks and you have it in your ammo stockpile (or “wallet” as we are calling today).

Need to pay a buddy for the new tires he just sold you? Use ammo!

Sure why the heck not? It is a new world where the dollar isn’t the only game in town. You can barter, use crypto, or use friggin’ ammunition! That is awesome and we’re making it possible.

I understand that some people just want a predictable relationship with their ammo: they buy it, shoot it, and buy some more - none of this “manage it online” “use it like currency” stuff. That’s just too out of the ordinary for some people. That’s fine too.

As far as I know, we’re the first company to go down this road of treating ammo like a commodity or currency. We’ve come a long way but we’re also just getting started!

Before you know it you’ll be able to use Ammo² Pay with other merchants and maybe, eventually, at an Applebee’s… that is unless you’re the type that tends to get thrown out! ;)

If you ain’t first - you’re last!
